Tom's Thoughts

Andromeda is cool and all, but lets talk about PREY.

Now that we’ve entered March, Mass Effect Andromeda isn’t that far away and it’s become really obvious that Ruairidh and I are SUPER EXCITED. However, there is more to life than Mass Effect. (Don’t look at me like that.) Casting our eyes into the not so distant future, the next big game that has us excited, mostly me, is Prey from Arkane Studios; the makers of the excellent Dishonored and it’s sequel.

Those amount of spoilers in trailers IS TOO DAMN HIGH!!

Teaser Trailers.  The Hype Train.  To quote Jeremy Irons in Batman Vs. Superman: "Thats how it starts: The fever, the rage..." The aim of these reels is to give the audience a small insight into or a brief tonal clip of the overall film. AKA:   What the film is about.  So why are the more recent trailers giving so much away?

The teaser for Dunkirk dropped last week with sreenings of *insert positive or incredibly spiteful description of* Suicide Squad. This is the new film from director Christopher Nolan, who you may know from his works, such as The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception and super-sad-Matthew-McConaughey-stuck-in-space. The teaser itself for Dunkirk showed less than 30 seconds of the film itself. No story, no characters, no nothing. Just enough to give you an idea of what the film will be about and what would transpire in this new WWII epic. When it was over and the next trailer rolled, this new feeling washed over me that I had not felt in a while.  A complete sense of unknown excitement. I knew nothing about the film, I don't know who is in it or anything about the story itself.

AND I LOVED IT.

Now I know what you're thinking:  "Tom, calm down. It's just a teaser."  "The film is more than a year away don't get too excited." But I guess I'm more aware of this problem that exists in the film industry nowadays.  Too much is being shown in these trailers, a lot of stuff is being given away in these short clips. In essence:

We as a generation are being spoilt by trailers.

Let's use some examples shall we?
1) Terminator Genysis.  Regardless of what you thought or felt when this soft reboot was announced,  the trailer showed promise.  Arnie was making a comeback, there was a bit set in the future and Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese were re-united! Yay!

How does it feel to have a Podcast?

So, Ruairidh and I are about to enter a month into the podcast so I thought I'd write about my feelings surrounding it and give you the reader an idea about what I'll use my blogs for.

In all the vidoes we've done, thanking all the individuals who have listened and cared about what we say, we sincerely mean it. I am still shocked that we record ourselves in Ruairidh's living room and people listen and pay attention to us. If you were to go back in time and tell me this is what I'd be doing in 6 months time, I would've laughed at you. I wouldn't have had the confidence to do it, but my co-star is a pusher and thats all we need sometimes: Someone to push you out of your comfort zone.

So, we talk about what we are going to discuss in the podcast and we both go away and we prepare about the topic. If you are curious, I'm the one who comes up with the weird questions to keep the conversation flowing. We record, we laugh, talk, dance (?) and make our way through anything that's interested us. It gets uploaded and you lovely people with your precious time listen attentively and laugh/cry/question at what we talk about.

So, I am going to us this blog to put out certain views/feelings I have regarding TV shows, games, movies and anything else that's on my mind. I might gush over a game I'm playing or rant about a certain film that was terrible and I'm unusually cut up about.

So that's my fist blog, the next one is going to follow imminently, so watch this space!

Tom.
